Why hello there dearest Moomins.
It’s been a hot minute, so thought I would share yet another enthralling instalment from my travels.
The Pilbara draws nearer.
Onslow → Karratha
And so we embark on yet another riveting drive, with a few stops along the way.

I actually considered stopping here for the night, right up until I saw the completely clean carcass of what looked like a giant cow (some people may call this a bull) and questioned what the fugg did that.
Not waiting to find out, we carried on.

The spelling may not be the same, but to me the following place doesn’t seem that appealing. 😂
Finally we arrived at Karratha and had to make a quick stop at the tourist information centre.

Which featured a lookout and mural on the water tank.
This is also where you have to pay for a night at the overflow campsite.
An absolute highlight was the lady telling me all the places I could go in the wider area, and when I asked what was worth looking at in Karratha…
She replied, “Nothing!”.
Worst Tourist Information ever.
Karratha Golf Club
Not too shabby for $16.
Although I really only stayed here to break up the journey.

Sightseeing would have to wait. I was bushed and promptly fell asleep.
Karratha
Turns out the lady wasn’t wrong. Other than functional stops, there wasn’t a lot to see except for…

Time to widen the net.
Burrup Peninsula
As you can see, the weather remains as it always does when I’m out adventuring, grey and rainy.

Next up was a visit to Nganjarli.
Part of the Murujuga National Park, Nganjarli is the traditional Indigenous name for “Deep Gorge” and means “Sacred Place.”

A 700m trail along the natural rock piles, where you can see carvings, grinding tools, petroglyphs and other cultural artefacts.

Some of which are estimated to be more than 47,000 years old.

Dampier
Before we move on, has anyone seen the movie “Hachi – A Dog’s Tale”?
If you haven’t, just trust me when I say don’t! The saddest film I ever saw.
Anyhoo, Dampier had a very similar story in that of Red Dog.

In short, a wandering kelpie/ cattle dog, who was famed as a wanderer, travelling on buses, hitching rides and even travelling on the iron ore trains.
Having formed a deep attachment to an iron ore train driver, who tragically died, Red Dog continued to wander alone looking for him.
He died of poisoning and was buried in Roebourne.
A statue was erected in Dampier, where he roamed, and you can even follow his path by following the Red Dog Trail
As if I wasn’t emotional enough 😭
And if I wasn’t sad enough it just wouldn’t stop raining.

At last I found something on the map that might cheer me up?

Turns out the name was very misleading indeed, needless to say I decided to give West a miss.
Pulling Teeth (Green Day – 1994)
Only me!
Where to begin, in real time it’s been one helluva week.
My visa is still in Moominland and has recently been joined by the Carnet Extension application.
We sit and we wait, my absolute favourite.
I had to visit a dentist not once but twice for two separate fillings and it was equal parts hilarious and terrifying.
I am quite afraid of the dentist, but I couldn’t help but laugh when he said he’s going to probe my mouth and that it would be a bit of a mouthful (the x-ray).
And last but not least I had a date and there is going to be another one…
Until next time XOXO
